General Position Summary

Camp BAR-V-NOK strives to promote Orthodox Christian spirituality, as a place where: “Faith, culture, and nature come together.” In light of this mission, it is the task of the camp to serve as an example of the life in Christ. The pursuit of all camp activities goes hand in hand with spiritual effort and an active life within the community of the Camp. Each staff member, as a member of this community, is held to a moral standard to comply with the patterns of behaviour traditionally expected by the Orthodox Church of those striving to live their life accordingly. As a result, staff will fully participate in morning and evening prayers, prayers before and after meals and celebrate the liturgical cycle of the Orthodox Church on designated days to the very best of their ability. 

As part of the summer staff, counsellors will be assigned a group of campers for whom they will be directly responsible. Counsellors will ensure their campers are actively supervised at all times and lead their groups in programs planned or led by the program staff. They will provide supervision to their assigned group when guest speakers or presenters are invited to the camp and model positive and engaged participation. Counsellors will support the campers in their cabins and ensure they feel safe and well looked after while getting plenty of rest. 

Program Staff will be passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. They will be role models who possess integrity, communication skills and value both community and nature. A Criminal Reference Check and Standard First Aid with CPR-C are required (Successful applicants that don't have first aid will be required to take the course as part of staff training). 

All summer staff members are ultimately accountable to the Camp BAR-V-NOK Society Board of Directors. The Program Director is responsible for all on-site camp staff.
